  1. canola oil

  2. smart balace "butter" is vegan

  3. I use unsweetened organic applesauce and it works great!  I've only tested this when making cakes and cupcakes but they turned out really delicious and were super moist!   You use the same ratio of applesauce as you would oil or butter.  Try it and you won't be disappointed!

  4. I think crisco butter flavor shortening is perfect to use instead of butter or margarine for baking purposes.

Perfect for making pies and pastries. Crisco contains 50% less saturated fat butter, blends more easily and does not require refigaration. Additionaly crisco does not scorch or burn like butter and margerine frying this vareity has a delicious buttery taste.

    Definition of vegetable shortening:

A solid fat made from vegetable oils, such as soybean and cooton seed oil.Although made from oil, shortening has chemichally transformed into a solid state through hydrogenation. Vegetable shortening is virtually flavourless(has a bland neutral flavour) and may be substituted for other fats (such as butter, margerine or lard) in baking of pies, cookies and cakes. shortening is ideal for pastry.

  5. s

  6. Earth Balance spread is best for putting on your tater or your bread.  Earth Balance has buttery sticks that are pretty good, as does Willow Run.

I don't consider them strange, but I guess a nonvegan might.

  7. Vegans use vegetable oil or vegetable fat.

You can also use applesauce, in place of the fat. The cake will still have a lot of sugar in in, but it will be healthier, than a cake using oil or butter ;)

  8. anytype of pam spray also to use less oils try puting your oil in a spray bottle u use less and u just spritz the pan vs pouring . Also olive oil and butter substitutes are good .

  9. oil

  10. You can also use Pumpkin puree.  (Not pumpkin pie filling!!)  This is a lot healthier than adding oils or fat.  Many people on Weight Watchers use it to make Muffins or cakes.

  11. i can not belive its not butter

  12. Smart Balance has whey and lactose in it...

Earth Balance is vegan though, try it.

  13. Marg, Yoghurt, Mayo, Cream Cheese, Lard, Olive Oil

  14. Applesauce!  Just like bluezlady said.

  15. Oh, you just got told, molly.

  16. Earth balance or smart balance light are nonhydrogenated margarines made from expellar pressed oils... great for baking. I love to bake and always use these

  17. Margarine. You can get nonhydrogenated margarine that doesn't contain butter milk. Earth balance or pure margarine. Soy or Sunflower oil and it's lovely.

  18. I just was recently introduced to Soy Butter.  It is very tasty, we (my boyfriend and I) don't think we'll ever go back to real butter. If there's a Trader Joe's near you, you can pick some up there.  Otherwise, hopefully you can find it at any health food store or market.

  19. can be mayonnaise or nutralite dats low in calories

  20. An alternative for butter is applesauce. Not only does it cut the fat, but it also helps keep your product moist. Hope this helps :-)

  21. olive oil

  22. Chicken fat.

  23. I don't know about prunes, but coconut oil/butter is great for cooking and baking.  It handle's high temperatures very well as opposed to olive oil which breaks down if you get it too hot.

    It's quite healthy too.

  24. I know that mayo works pretty good for some butter calling recipes (like in non-rising deserts), and any time to sub. with eggs (1Tbs, per med egg).

Butter can be a hard one, too many ways to use it :-)

    Best of luck to you.

One more note, Olive oil is not designed to be heated beyond room temp. When it breaks down it can be harmful to you.

If your using butter topically like for a pan or on Grilled cheese, Mayo (real) helps to prevent burning too...

I will sometimes even use salad dressing, or Ranch for the extra flavors - even for my very picky kids, they love the flavor, hate the idea :-)
