  1. The only one I've ever been to is Torino Comics in Turin, Italy, and it's pretty much like the one you describe... but it wouldn't be considered an exciting convention at all...

  2. oh they are really fun went to one a few weeks back...they have at the one i was at places to play yugioh and mtg, a video game area with brawl and ddr, then at most ofthem there is shopping booths, and autograph table, rooms to show video's in, and a cosplay contest, there is also forms of entertainment like the 404's a really good improve group and lately there is talking about loita the gothic maidish stuff

  3. All conventions have different things happening in them but the main ones that tend to happen in every convention are:

    Booths/Stalls:

These are places where dealers sell their products which range from anything to manga/anime volumes, cosplay costumes/accessories to plushies, action figures, jpop/jrock cds.

Some conventions also hold auctions for bigger items.

Like last Auchinawa, there was an auction and one of the main items was a life-size Chi plushie

    Masquerade:

This is for cosplayers to show off their costumes and handywork.

Commissioned costumes (i.e costumes you didn't make yourself) can be shown off here but cannot be entered in the competitions which judge on quality, accuracy and props

    Omake:

    Performance time!

Cosplay groups perform small skits which can be anything from a 3 minute comedy sketch, a song, a dance routine (but please, no Hare Hare Yukai - its way too overdone!) or whatever other lil piece they can think of!

    DDR:

Every convention i've been to has featured DDR!

    Dance Dance Revolution!

    Photoshoots:

Some cosplayers like to hold private photoshoots if the convention location is particularly fitting for their cosplay.

For example, last years Amecon was held in a university and the corridors looked similar to those of NERV which made for some good photos of my Asuka cosplay!

    Panels:

This is your chance to see the convention guest being interviewed, ask questions and get autographs.

Guests are usually voiceactors, big names in the industry and occassionally, jpop/jrock stars!

Every convention has it's own individual events for example, cosplay balls where the cosplay must be more formal, yaoi/yuri events, singing competitions.

I heard there was an "Anime Idol" in an American convention recently.

But there's always something for everyone at a convention so because you may not like, say the yuri event, there's always another event you could be at to make up for it :3
