  1. Briefly, artificial satellites are some kinds of electric device that people send into space. These devices are programed to move around the earth in a certain orbit (just like the moon can move around the Earth ,you know. And it's called a natural satellite of the Earth.)

Artificial satellites can be used for different purposes.

  2. Artificial satellites are the satellites we launch into orbit (earth has thousands of these).

A natural satellite is any "moon,"  (earth only has one of those.)

    Benefits of artificial satellites:

    *Better understanding of orbital physics

*A (slightly) larger area to triangulate star distances (look up: parallax and Hipparcos)

    *Cell Phones

    *Wireless Internet

    *Google Earth

*Satellite Television (yes, those  satellite dishes are pointed up there for a reason)

*Satellite Radio (which I've always found somewhat peculiar terminology)

*Communication (pretty much all non-radio signal and non land-line communications are bounced off of satellites these days).

    *Intelligence for the various millitaries...

*Any study that can be done from photographs/thermal images of the earth from satellites in orbit (global warming, vegitation, large storm activities, long-term atmospheric phenomenon, long-term cloud patterns, can all be studied from satellite photography... not everyone comes to the same conclusions all the time, but the information is provided).

...I could go on and on.
