What are basic "bar" drinks?

I've recently turned 21 and I have a few basic drinks that I enjoy when I go to a bar. I've purchased a few mixology books, however when I go to a nightclub or bar on the Strip (I live in Vegas), I'm worried whether or not the bartender will know what some of these drinks are. What are some of the common drinks that are ordered on a regular basis that a bartender will almost always know how to make?

Please don't be scared to order a drink.  Skilled Bartenders will be able to make all kinds of drinks and answer all kinds of questions.  Especially in Vegas.  To work out on the strip you have to be an Elite bartender.

Every Bartender will know these for sure:

Margarita

Long Island Ice Tea

Cosmo

Martini

White Russian

Amaretto Sour

Strawberry Daiquiri

Pina Colada

Tequila Sunrise

Bloody Mary

Fuzzy Navel

Gin & Tonic

Rum & Coke

Any Liquor & Any mixer...lol

whoa im pretty positive they will know how to make the drinks there. I live in a crummy little town and they know a good amount. I've been to Vegas a couple of times too, so I'm sure whatever you throw at them, they will be able to make.

I usually get vodka cranberry, which is pretty basic. Some others are cosmos, martinis, long islands, red headed s***s (shots!).

its silly to be scared to order a drink...what happens if they don't know? they either have a book behind the bar or they say I don't know, can you tell me...not a big deal, and even if you say something along the lines of I don't like tequila, I like girly drinks etc etc they can come up with something new to try...but to answer your question vodka or gin and tonic, vodka cran, whiskey coke, rum coke....you ge the idea...more specialty drinks, Long islands, cosmos, martini and derivatives

poopular shots in chicago:

jager bombs(well any bomb for that matter), red headed s***s, royal flush, ********/ muff dives,  kamikazies, the list goes on and on.

most bars have drink books behind the bar.  and i'm pretty sure that the bartenders in vegas are very talented, they'll be able to handle what ever you throw at them.

another good idea is to ask the bartender what their favorite drink/shot is.

When you go to bartending school their are drinks that you have to know how to make which are part of the "IBA international bartenders association"

Bartender don't alway make their drinks alike everyone wants to have their own specialtiy but some BASIC drinks are:  any kind of Margaritas orginal or frozen, Long Island Ice Tea,  Daiquiris, Rum & Coke and Vodka & Cranberry Juice.  You just have to try different drinks to see what catches your taste buds.  HAPPY DRINKING!
