What are billable hours in the social work field?

I was suprised to learn my friend, who is a case manager, has to have 100 billable hours a month.

  1. I have the exact same requirement at my company. I wonder if she works for the same company as I do. Ha, ha.

    Are you surprised insofar as you think that that number is too low, or too high? I can tell you this much...working out in the field, you do ALOT of driving b/w patients homes, and the like, and that time isn't "billable." Also, the time you spend writing the required "service notes" (explaining what you did, and what progress the client has made toward their mental health goals) also is not billable. The billable requirement is harder to meet than you might think.


  2. billable hours are actually exactly what they sound like, they are hours you can bill for. you can typically bill for hours either worked on a case or hours actually spent with the patient.
