  1. Airships.

  2. My Dad flew Blimps up and down the coast during WW2. Flew mostly out of Brazil. The crew would look for German Subs and when they saw one would throw Beer Cans at them and then let the Army Air Corp know. He said you could see very far underwater after you got away from the Amazon.

  4. A blimp is a non-rigid airship; that is, an airship that relies upon the pressure of the lifting gas in the envelope to hold its shape, rather than upon a framework and outer envelope.

It is very easy to find extensive information, with photographs and diagrams that will tell you all you need to know about blimps.  Just do an internet search on "blimp."

P.S.:  There are several popular myths about the origin of the word "blimp;" most are wrong.  During the First World War, the British Navy used three classes of non-rigid airships for anti-submarine patrols and similar purposes.  These were designated "Limp" as opposed to rigid (Zeppelins): Type A Limp, Type B Limp, and Type C Limp.  By far the most numerous were the Type B Limp, and "blimp" is just a short form of "B Limp."

  5. Blimps is another name for Airships,or dirigibles, flying machines that employ lighter-than-air gases to give them lift.

They also use a propeller to give them forward motion and a rudder system to steer.A blimp is different from other airships in that it doesn,t have a rigid skeleton like that of a zeppelin
