If they're not silver in color that rules out Stainless Steel so would they be brass or copper?

  1. neither brass nor copper would be strong enough -- either would twist.

unless you're talkin bout big ships like aircraft carriers, all the boat propshafts I've ever seen have been SS, and silver in color.

  2. More than likely bronze or stainless

  3. It depends on what the builder was using ....  my sailboat has a 1 1/8" bronze shaft. Stainless is common ... and would turn a darker color in the water as the stainless properties are greatly reduced under water. Various alloys such as monel might be used .. but they can get pretty spendy ...

  4. Monel or stainless steel. Brass or copper would be to soft.

  5. s.s  clean it youll see

  6. The ones that come on the smaller motors when you buy them are made of aluminum- there is also a prop that is made of a composite material- then there is the high end stainless steel props that are found on the larger motors.
