  1. heavy duty iron pipe often with a foam protection around them.  You can get the pipe at a pipe or scrap iron place.  There are many such places in rural areas where cattle are common because farmers make corrals and such out of them.  I get mine from Pipes Plus in West Plains Missouri.  I suggest about a two or three inch pipe of a fairly heavy gauge.  Go there and check out your choices since you do not want something so heavy that it is hard to lift if it is supposed to be removable.

  2. I would use a reinforced steel bar covered in foam to protect the horse. Cheap enough and easy but still safe.

    Good luck

  4. they can be made of just about anything.  I've seen them made of steel piping, thick wood with padding..  a plastic webbing..  your trailer should have them  already.. if not contact the manufacture and they can give you replacements or dimensions to get new ones.

  5. They can be made of anything strong enough to hold up a horse leaning on it heavily.  You could try wood with a thick padding around it so the horse does not get hurt, or metal.

Try the various trailer traders - look in horse and hound for example and write and ask what they suggest.

  6. thick wood with padding is your best bet.

wood is soft and the padding should stop him from getting splinters.

Juat make sure the wood wont snap under pressure from your horse if he wants to lean on it.

get a load of bubble wrap and wrap it tightly around the wood so you hvae at least 6 layers.

Then find some old material or buy some you like and wrap that over the bubble wrapping.

Thats yiou done then. and its quite a cheap alternative.

  7. The ones in my trailer are steel bars (hollow 2" tubes, I think) covered in about 2" of foam all the way around, then a vinyl cover on the foam.  I don't know where you could buy one, but I think you could make one or have the metal parts made at a welder's shop or something.  The foam/vinyl coverings on mine would be easy to make.  I guess the foam is just wrapped around.  The vinyl is sewed into a tube shape, with basically drawstrings at each end to tighten it up.
