  1. pancakes?

Cactus have many adaptations to desert life.  Spines are reduced leaves  that help prevent loss of water, shallow fibrous wide-spread roots take advantage of short rain that evaporates before it soaks in, the body is spongy to retain water for long periods, the "skin" is  thick and tough and may have corrugations (linear wrinkles) that expand to hold excess water without rupture.   The flowers can develop quickly after rain, and the seeds can  also sprout rather rapidly.  All adaptations that support life in arid climates.

  2. I just brought cactus back from A Z 2 N J friday

Dug them out of the desert near mesa AZ.

They flower with low humidity hot sunny days

Little water and no love or affection!!!!! Mexico

has all these conditions for plant growth. My cactus grow fair in N J cause we have high humidity 4 seasons and not full sun light. The more harsh living conditions the better.
