I read the book "dreamland" and i have to do a book report/summary about it.

I have just finished my first paragraph (my introduction paragraph) and i want to start the next paragraph which starts off the story/summary. I just dont want to start it with "it all started when..." or "once upon a time.." or "so this is what happened..".

I want it to be catchy and draw the attention to my teacher who is reading it. I just dont know how to start it.

What are some good ways to start off paragraphs to make them catchy? anything helps. even ideas or clues or hints or big descriptive words.

thanks soo much!

  1. You can do a bunch of different things,

    1. start with a quote from the book

    2. use an anecdote, like a story that relates to the book

    3. ask a retorital question

    4. do some heavy description

  2. Have you considered starting with a question?

Have you considered starting with a teaser.  Such as:  The saucy Miss Jane has alot to teach us.

Have you considered humor.  Susan Termor, the heroine in dreamcatchers is so dumb that she would give the dumb blond jokes a run for their money.

By the way, I have not read the book, so I can't help you with the actual characters, but you get the idea!
