  1. Scam. I might look like a certified check but it's as phony as a $1 bill.

  2. Nigeria = SCAM

He wants to send you a fake check for 15,000 and then he wants you to send him 10,000 in REAL money from the bank. You'll send the real money to him, and THEN you will discover that the check he sent you is FAKE.

Google "nigerian scam" to see how many thousands of people these scammers try to fool. Or talk to somebody at the bank or the police department. Then delete any e-mails you have from this person and don't respond to any more.

  3. This is a well documented scam. If you take the bait you'll get a nasty notice from your bank a week or two after you deposit the $15,000 that the check was no good. It will look genuine but it's a fake and your $10,000 will be gone.

  4. First of all that is what is called a Nigerian 419 scam.  http://www.fbi.gov/majcases/fraud/frauds...  Look at that website.  Second, certified funds are funds that are as good as cash.  As if you were to go to your bank, hand them cash, and they give you a certified check.  You can also get certified funds from your checking account.  And let him find someone else.  You will receive a check in the mail, you then deposit the check, and wire money out.  In the mean time, the check is being returned as fraudulent, and then you are out thousands of dollars because you believed this guy in the first place.    See the links below.  One is from FBI, and the other is from Bankers online, which is a collection of issues directly from bankers that have dealt with this exact thing.
