I need to know what challenges migrant children and families face upon entering the UK and what Government strategies and services are aimed at helping them? What are the living conditions of migrants? Thank you for your help

  1. Well they get free money and a furnished house, a space at the local school for there kids and any medical care they need.  The migrants get better living conditions than that of our uk troops.  Its a bloody joke.  No more migrants should be allowed to uk and those here deported.

  2. I think most of us understand that when migrant families enter the UK, our benefit system kicks in immediately to help them.  I understand that all they need to do is report to their nearest benefit office (wherever they have jumped off ship) and babble at the person behind the desk.  This official will realise that they have yet another migrant family, and straight away will allocate a council house or flat with whatever hundreds of pounds a week deemed necessary.

  3. They could face many challenges, such as language or cultural ones.

They might speak little or no English, for example. They could dress differently, causing them to stand out and perhaps even invite ridicule or attack from some. They may feel alienated because of different cultural practises from their countries of origin.

The children of new arrivals could find themselves caught between cultures. On the plus side, this might help bridge the gap for their parents and other family members. On the other hand, it could produce a lot of stress when the children attempt to become independent adults, especially if they don't want to follow the culture of their parents' choosing.

In work, they may suffer discrimination (although the government has sought to redress this with the introduction of anti racial and anti discrimination laws).

Migrant workers may find they are offered less than the minimum wages by some unscrupulous employers. This would have the knock-on effect of forcing them into bad housing in poverty-trap areas.

Nevertheless, the law provides protection for overseas workers whether they are working here legally or not.
