Question:

What are chances of getting pregnant with IUI shortly after ovulation?

On Saturday AM the u/s showed a follicle of over 19 mm and I was given the Ovidrel shot and told to come back the following morning for my first IUI.

By the following morning (Sunday) the u/s showed that the follicle had already collapsed and I had ovulated but the IUI was done anyway because the egg may have still been viable.

Most things I've read say that ovulation takes place 24-36 hours after the hcg injection. I seemed to have responded to it much sooner than that ....

so my question is, is there still a good chance of pregnancy or was the IUI probably too late?

  1. Welll, it would have been better to have done IUI before ovulation.  I am actually surprised the doctor did it.  That's an expensive "possible".  I would have waited another month, personally.

But yes, of course there is a chance.  But most books you read will tell you the chances of getting pregnant is better if you have sperm in you BEFORE you ovulate, not after, as sperm can live for 5 to 7 days.  An egg can only live 12 to 24 hours.

  2. you wouldn't have ovulated before the shot and you had the iui within 36 hours so you will be fine

they want to see a ruptured follicle when you have that ultrasound

they were looking for it when i had my iui

hope you and i both get our bfp

  3. The egg is viable for 24 hours so you still have a good chance.
