  1. Well, I would look for body language that is congruent with the spoken message, I would look for realism and honesty.  Empathy and understanding the viewpoints of others is important.  using measured language (not curse words or hyperbole or exaggeration) i believe is important.  not being defensive or aggressive.  not switching your position on things because of who you talked to.  not jumping to conclusions.  not gossiping.  not triangulating.  recognizing the contributions of others.  dealing responsibly with your feelings and the feelings of others.  i recommend marshall rosenberg's book 'nonviolent communication' because it has the best communications skills ever.


  2. listening, not hearing to the tasks being assigned. Listening will help you focus on the person that is speaking and understand what they are saying.
