Chinchillas are very very clean animals, and they do not smell, they are great for people who are allergic to most animals because they create very little dander, you don't need to brush them and they cant come in contact with water except for the water in there bottle, it mats there fur up really bad and i am not sure of any medical side effects, they take dust baths, which is really fun to watch them spin around in there little bathhouse, it is best to have them bath outside but confined so they cant hop away, because the dust does get all over your house if you allow them to do it inside, they make great pets, and you can keep them in pairs, they are also fun to watch play with their other chinchillas friends, make sure that they are not left in a room that is stuffy or uncomfortable, they need a some what cool climate, most people believe that they are from the desert, but they are not, they are from the andes mountains, chinchillas can suffer from heat stroke fairly easy, a safe temp to keep them at is around 70 degrees, and they are super cute!!
