  1. chromosomes are coiled strands of dna. they are located in the nucleus of every cell in the body. every normal person has 46 chromosomes, 23 from ur mom, 23 from ur dad (actually 23 from the egg, and 23 from the sperm).

  2. In the nucleus of a cell, there are main parts namely nucleoplasm, nuclear membrane, nucleolus , nuclear membrane and chromatin network. During cell division, the chromatin network converts into chromosomes which contain hereditary units called 'genes'.

  3. chromosome (n.) A threadlike linear strand of DNA and associated proteins in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells that carries the genes and functions in the transmission of hereditary information.  OR

chromosome (n.) A circular strand of DNA in bacteria that contains the hereditary information necessary for cell life.

in humans every sperm has 23 and every egg has 23. these pair up and form everything about you.

  4. Chromosomes are organized structures of DNA and proteins that are found in cells. A chromosome is a singular piece of DNA, which contains many genes, regulatory elements and other nucleotide sequences. Chromosomes also contain DNA-bound proteins, which serve to package the DNA and control its functions. The word chromosome comes from the Greek χρῶμα (chroma, color) and σῶμα (soma, body) due to their property of being stained very strongly by some dyes.

Chromosomes vary extensively between different organisms. The DNA molecule may be circular or linear, and can contain anything from tens of kilobase pairs to hundreds of megabase pairs. Typically eukaryotic cells (cells with nuclei) have large linear chromosomes and prokaryotic cells (cells without defined nuclei) have smaller circular chromosomes, although there are many exceptions to this rule. Furthermore, cells may contain more than one type of chromosome; for example mitochondria in most eukaryotes and chloroplasts in plants have their own small chromosomes.

In eukaryotes, nuclear chromosomes are packaged by proteins into a condensed structure called chromatin. This allows the very long DNA molecules to fit into the cell nucleus. The structure of chromosomes and chromatin varies through the cell cycle. Chromosomes may exist as either duplicated or unduplicated—unduplicated chromosomes are single linear strands, while duplicated chromosomes (copied during synthesis phase) contain two copies joined by a centromere. Compaction of the duplicated chromosomes during mitosis and meiosis results in the classic four-arm structure (pictured to the right).

"Chromosome" is a rather loosely defined term. In prokaryotes, a small circular DNA molecule may be called either a plasmid or a small chromosome. These small circular genomes are also found in mitochondria and chloroplasts, reflecting their bacterial origins. The simplest chromosomes are found in viruses: these DNA or RNA molecules are short linear or circular chromosomes that often lack any structural proteins.

    i hope that helps

and that is the best thing i know

  5. chromosomes: A structure within the cell that bears the genetic material as a threadlike linear strand of DNA bonded to various proteins in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells, or as a circular strand of DNA (or RNA in some viruses) in the cytoplasm of prokaryotes and in the mitochondrion and chloroplast of certain eukaryotes.

  6. Chromosomes are sort of "organizers".

Well not exactly, the organizer would be the nucleus of a cell, but your chromosome makeup decides genetic traits, what you will look like, health issues, what possible diseases you could be vulnerable to, basically everything about your body.

Chromosomes are a part of DNA, and i'm pretty sure you know what DNA does.

Wow CJ said it way better than i did, listen to him lol.
