Not coed dorm rooms, just coed dorms.

And is it more common to share a dorm with the same s*x as you, or opposite s*x?

Coed or dorms are simply an actually dormitory that houses male and females. Usually they will split up different levels and have the same s*x on certain floors, but I have heard of college where it is pretty much first come first serve and you may have next door neighbors or even a roommate that is not the same s*x. Usually people share a dorm with someone of the same s*x. In fact, coed dorms are even at many schools, but it tends to be more common at state universitiess than other types of schools

It's like an apartment building. Your neighbor may be either a girl or a boy.

Your roommate will always be the same s*x.

On campus dorm buildings are typically the same s*x, but the opposite s*x building is usually a quick walk away.
