During the war, oil was very hard to get so the Germans used/invented other fuels. I heard they used milk for some of their vehilces. I know for sure they used Holzbrenner. An engine that ran off charcol/wood. Volkswagons were the type of cars used. Anyways if you could please tell me any fuels used that would be great,Thanks

  1. Germany fueled its military with a mix of petroleum derived fuels and fuels produced through Fischer Tropsch synthesis.  The syngas used in the F-T process was derived primarily from coal.

Wood, or more precisely, pyrolysis gas produced by destructive distillation of wood, was used in the civilian sector to power some automobiles and other vehicles.

  2. From what I know they mostly used synthetic oil through the Fischer/troupse (spelling?) process. Basically turning coal to gasoline and oil.

By the way, lack of oil is the biggest reason why Hitler invaded the USSR and created a two front war.  USSR had the resources he needed. He also wanted to protect his oil fields in Romania from a possible Russian attack.

  3. Milk? I dunno about that legend..

See the enclosed link. Many of these exotics liquids had dangerously low flash points and corroded their fuel tanks.
