  1. It does not cost them a dime it costs the taxpayers about $42,000 a year to house a prisoner, and due to all the bleeding hearts they do not have to work at all if they feel like it.

  2. they pay for nothing. every need is met by taxpayers except cigs i think

  3. But, this could be a good idea?  Once their out, garnish their paychecks to help pay back the costs incurred.

  4. they don't pay we pay for their cells, so the more we put in jail the more money we pay.

  5. Unfortunately its the rest of us mopes that pay for these scum. In some states, the county jails can charge a BS fee of $2 a day...but obviously this doesn't come near covering the cost.

Personally I would like to see a system in which criminals pay for the full dollar amount of all the costs associated with their criminal activity (investigation, trial and prison). A percentage of the criminals wages (from whenever they are relased) would be garnished until the debt is paid.

  6. wierd that you ask that ,,, rent? I know a woman who got work release while she was in jail in NC...and they actualy did charge her rent... they had a different name for it .. but they took the majority of her cash for what was rent....jail sucks...dont want to go myself............well mabey a all female jail...mabey not there either... that one in NC had some manly looking ladies in it....peace

  7. are you on meds?

    ----------retired texas deputy sheriff----------

  8. criminals do not pay for jail

this brought up the issue before that we should just increase number of death penalty so that government should not have to pay for their cells, or decrease prison cells for the same effect

  9. They are not. If you have a job, you are paying for them.

  10. No, it's paid for by taxdollars.

  11. Nah, Tax payers pay. But to cut cost prisoners work  doing things like pressing license plates and other government related work.

  12. Jail sucks - of course we don't pay for it. We should GET paid for it!

  13. In the state of Washington, persons found guilty of a crime pay restitution and victim's compensation whether there's a "victim" or not.  (e.g., going 60mph in a 25 zone, even if it's only you, a traffic camera, and maybe a cow within a 4-mile radius.  No joke.)

The maximum for both in "victimless" crimes is $500 each.  Unfortunately, this means criminals in the state of Washington may be obligated to pay $1,000 for being in jail.  This isn't a problem since they can choose to stay in jail to pay their fines at a rate of $25-$120 per day depending on jail policy.  (Again, no joke.)

  14. Traveling through North Carolina, I saw inmates used to clean up trash along the road. I believe it was inmates that volunteered   but not sure. After the floods in Iowa, the governor contracted unskilled labor to clean it up. Seems like low security inmates could have done the job cheaper and saved taxpayers
