  1. I still live in Idaho, Blackfoot area.  Lots of lamb grown around here.

Lamb has held steady at $1 a pound, live weight, for the past four years that I've lived here.  Cut and wrapped, the prices are all over the place.  Some farmers charge $2.50 a pound, some of the fancy organic lamb raisers are charging as much as $12 a pound (!!!!!!!!).  They seem to mostly be trying to ship their lamb meat, frozen to customers, as no local person in Idaho is going to pay $12 a pound for lamb.

If you are talking about what the price is per pound that a 4H, or FFA child is going to recieve for a market lamb, those prices have nothing to do with the reality of what farmers actually recieve.

I raised a market lamb in 1984, for FFA.  I recieved $1.85 a pound for that market lamb at the auction, back in 1984 (in Washington state)!

So if you are a 4H, or FFA kid, do not expect anything approaching reality.  Also do not expect to make record prices this year.  The economy is not good enough for the buyers to want to make outrageous bids.

$1 a pound live weight is reality.  For children in 4H or FFA, I expect $2 a pound live weight could be expected.
