I am making a party for my parent's 25th wedding anniversary. It is a semi-formal event. I'm renting an intimate room for family and a few very close friends and I'm going to have a nice catered buffet. I need some ideas for cute centerpieces that would be fairely inexpensive but that would still add something nice to the room. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Where did they go on their honeymoon?  Maybe a theme based on that would work:) ...... Otherwise, it's their silver anniversary, so maybe some mirror squares on the tables, with different sized, fat white candles .... or different sized clear vases with silver marbles inside, and a candle stuck into that.....  silver confetti and glitter strewn around (also put some into the invitation envelopes).....  Congratulations to them!  (our 25th is in Jan)

  2. Carnations are usually cheap; I think they are usually about $7 a dozen.  Get the flowers in your parents' wedding colors or your mother's favorite color, and make up small bud vases.  Since a 25th is a silver anniversary, sprinkle Hershey kisses on the table around the flowers.

  3. Try filling pretty glass bowls half way with water and use floating candles. They are inexpensive and elegant. You can add fresh flower heads, rose petals, colored stones, even gold fish! It can be very beautiful and add a little shimmer to your table. You can buy floating candles many places.Anywhere they sell candles should have them. Hallmark always has them. Enjoy the party!

  4. a simple vase of pretty flowers would be great for this event- flowers make it more classy. check out the dollar store or Goodwill for vases- they don't all have to match either. Lilies are very fragrant and elegant and go with everything, otherwise check out Sam's Club or someplace you can get them in a bigger bulk amount for less $, otherwise the grocery stores have nice bouqets of mixed flowers, then just divide the flowers equally between the # of vases, use greenery and babies breath to fill in each vase as much as you want. maybe pick up some pretty ribbon to tie around each vase. you can buy (or rent) round mirrors for underneath the vases, and pick up some glass tea light candle holders, two or three for each table, check the dollar store and Goodwill for these also. you can scatter some fake rose petals or cut out confetti on the mirrors also.

  5. This may sound corny, but years ago we used to make flowers out of tissue paper (gift wrap type), put several layers (6 would be good) together, alternating colors if you want, fold the paper like a fan,tie the center, and pull the layers apart, then you can take a scissor and round out the edges, you can make them as big or small as you like, either put them down the center of the table(s)or make a centerpiece by setting them in a crystal bowl, either glass or a clear plastic bowl. You'd be surprised how nice they will look, I'm sure your mom would get a kick out of it, she would probably remember making them !!!  I am 53 and there were not too many crafts things back then to make. It would bring back some memories.  Once you make the first one,it will go fast, they are easy to make,   Have fun, congratulations on your parents Anniv.,hope they have 25 more.

  6. I love Linda's idea, but forget Hallmark --- you can get everything you need at discount places like Target or Gallmart.  Be sure to get  unscented, though.  Some people react to scents.

What makes these nice is they don't block the people across the table.

  7. 25th anniv = sliver.  So...put silver aluminum foil around candle sticks; make flowers out of silver (Al foil, of course); do you have an embosser of some kind?  even a Notary Public seal?? ..press the seal on silver (yup, Al foil) and have as tokens or coins strewn around all of the tables like confetti.

    HTH.
