  1. The answer may surprise you but the USA is playing catch up on the matter.  The USA is the greatest resource consumer but doesn't recycle to a nearly appropriate level.  Many countries accept all the waste from our nation, regenerate raw material, and create useful products.  This includes paper, wood, metals, and plastic.

For example, I did some research on business that recycle in the San Diego region because I was looking for recycled plastic materials.  So, I was focusing on the recycling of plastic back to raw material.  Every "recycling" business was restricted to simply collection, cleaning, and shipping overseas.  Perhaps this is different in other parts of California or states in the USA, if so, then please inform.

As far as garbage, there's not many other nations that advertise or package items like the USA does so the "developing" countries have things rather simple.  I've advocated improved, simpler packaging methods but that is a tough one since that is an enormous industry and flashy wrapping is a tremendous influence on consumer choices.  If you can shop at an open or farmer's market then you can reduce packaging waste even more than just using a canvas tote for your goods.

  2. The US should be mining all the land fills for every kind of material obtainable and then use what's left to generate heat and power for the public! The land fills are literally filled with paper, wood , plastic, glass and metal!

  3. try to watch the story of stuff by ANnie Leonard and see how U.S contributes only 1/5 of the worlds population BUT CONSUMES A HALF OF WORLDS RESOURCES. and then try to see how recycling ONLY HELPS and does not SOLVE THE PROBLEM,

  4. China takes in our scrape metal, then makes things and sends it back here to be sold in Walmart....that's how they get rid of their garbage.

  5. they are all right. USA is one of the biggest consumers of materials but does not recycle those materials. they just dump it on developing countries in order for those countries to use it. but of course, developing countries are still civilized! they still know how to recycle and dispose garbage properly. don't you ever think developing countries are just dumping, they are doing something about it. you are somehow discriminating developing countries.

  6. It depends on the country. In some places, the garbage is used to feed goats and fat-tailed sheep. The dumps are mined (picked over) to provide raw materials. Even human f***s may be burned to provide heat for the public baths.
