What are different kinds of social assistance?? like welfare? what elsee?

i don't just mean programs that can assist ppl with money, like welfare.. i also mean other things like employment programs, community services ..things like that? what kind of social assistance is out there for ANY kind of social issue?

  1. It does depend on where you live.  The question you need to ask yourself is what type of program you are looking for.  

    There are three general levels of assistance.  Federal, State and Local.

    Federal includes things such as SSI/SSDI, HUD, HEAP, FEMA

    State Can include such things as

    OJT programs, Medicaid, Waiver programs.

    Local could include things such as

    Food pantry, clothing closets, Job seeker programs, and various other programs depending on your area.

  3. if your looking for a job you can always go to the unemployment office that is offered by the state.  You can also go to places like we have here called career link.  There is also alot of organizations like Salvation Army and Red Cross that are social services.

Most charity organizations are.  501c nonprofit organizations are based on the idea of helping society.  Did you know Economics is a social science?  Look up social agencies in yahoo search and see what you get.  Try SPCA as it helps prevent a community of abandoned pets, which starve and can become wild and mean due to their instincts.  They could create problems with society. The World Bank may be considered a social assistance program as it aids countries that could not get credit or assistance traditionally.  It is a .org.

    United Way is a social agency.  Just put Social Agencies in the church bar.  Yahoo Search is easy with the right terms.

  6. Catholic Charities help people in a lot of ways: Food, clothing, finding jobs.

    There are food stamps and the WIC program helps impoverished mothers buy healthy food for themselves and children.

    Women's shelters for battered and abused women.

    Medicaid and Medical Assistance programs help people without insurance and with little or no income to pay for medical care.

    Health clinics provide services on a graded scale based on income.

    Food Banks provide food to shelters and soup kitchens that feed homeless and the poor.
