What are different temperatures I can make biscuits at?

I like to make Bisquick biscuits frequently but often times I want to make them while also baking something in the oven. This presents a problem with the different required temperatures. What are some alternate temperatures and baking times besides the box listed 450 degrees (which no dinner I have EVER made required)...

  1. I've gone as low as 350 F with success.  Obviously, it takes them more time.  They're also not "quite" as fluffy, but they're still really, really good.  So 350 or 375 or 400 if not the 450.  Sometimes if I have a pot roast or something like that, I pull out the dutch oven and let that sit (the meat is more tender when the juices have a chance to redistribute before slicing) while I bake the biscuits in the hotter oven.

Have you made the cheesy Bisquick biscuits like Red Lobster?  I make them more often than plain anymore - depending upon what I'm serving them with!

  2. Last time i made biscuits , because my oven tends to cook too fast, i baked them at 350 but just had to increase the time to 20 min.  They turned out really good!  But i wasnt using bisquick i was using flour, not sure of the difference, but try it. Cant hurt.

  3. I would also say only go as low as 350 with biscuits. You need the blast of a really hot oven for them to rise perfectly. For best results don't go below 400. I've had pretty similar results with 400 and 450. Once I did 350 by accident and they came out good, just not as fluffy and high. Just increase the time slightly the lower you go.

Better yet, cook them at the correct (high) temp and then keep them warm in a dishtowl or foil while you cook the rest of the food. Hope that helps.

  4. When I take the roast or casserole out of the oven, then I turn up the temp to 400 to bake the biscuits while the roast or casserole is "resting" a few minutes and I am finishing up the salad or whatever else we are having. That way the biscuits are really hot when I put them in the bread basket. Mine has one of those tiles you heat while the biscuits are baking.

I have occasionally stuffed the biscuits in at 350 because I was getting really rushed to get meal on the table. They take longer and aren't as fluffy.

I also use the biscuits as casserole toppers and bake at 350!!
