  1. Open your windows in the summer and turn up the thermostat.  In the winter, bundle up and turn the thermostat down.  Turn lights off when you don't need them; enjoy natural light.  When not using an applicance unplug it.

    Simple but very effective :)

  2. Lots of great answers, I would add, insulate and weatherstrip to keep cool air in during the summer, out in the winter. Closing drapes or curtains to keep out sunlight and heat, in the winter let the sun in.

The change that has saved me the most on my electric bill is getting rid of most of my standby electricity use. I have my tv, vcr, stereo and game system plugged into a powerstrip with a switch, when I'm not using the tv, I flip the switch off, it is like unplugging all the appliances. I've saved about $50 a month. I also unplug all chargers when not charging, that includes laptop, and toothbrush.

  3. Create your own renewable energy source. It is easy and relatively cheap if you know where to look. Here is a helpful article related to building a natural energy source.

  4. Run your dishwasher only at night so it doesn't heat up your living space.

Be sure your ceiling fans are rotating in the correct direction so you feel breeze underneath.  Running the fans will make you feel several degrees cooler, and you can set your Air Conditioning at a higher temperature.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Use energy efficiant light bulbs. You can find them just about anywhere. Like Giant food stores. Also When you're going to someones house and its not too far away try riding a bike or walking instead of using the car. If you have air conditioning, keep windows and doors to the outside closed, if you have them open your wasting energy. Don't always be on the computer or watch TV all the time, enjoy the outside. Turn off the lights when you're not using them.

  6. There are many things you can do to save energy and help the environment at the same time!  Here are a few ideas I had:

    ~Buy energy saving light bulbs

    ~Take shorter showers

    ~Turn off lights whenever possible

~Use cold water to wash clothes (Tide Cold water works great)

~On a nice day, turn off the air/heat and open some windows. You save of the cost, get a nice fresh breeze, and help the environment.

~Plant trees around your house to shade and save on using more air conditioning

~Change the setting on your sprinklers to use less water

~Walk or ride a bike wherever possible

    ~Carpool if possible
