Embryonic stem cells are cells in an embryo (an as yet undeveloped life form) that have not yet differentiated into being any particular kind of cell. That is to say, they are cells that have not yet become nerve cells or digestive cells or general organ cells. Therefore, with the proper stimulation, embryonic stem cells have the capacity to become any type of cell.
