I have this huge paper due in a week about Odysseus being capable of human weakness, as him being a family man, and as a patient, compassionate man. I need help! So if you could give me any examples about any of these that would be VERY helpful!! Thanks!

  1. There are lots. Odysseus is kind of an idiot in some ways.

I wouldn't say that being a family man is a "weakness", at all though.

His weaknesses are more things like being a bad leader - lets his men do stupid things that get them all killed. Or like his men open the bag of wind because they think he is stealing Gold from them.

Also, he kinda taunts Polyphemus after blinding him, and give him his name, address and zip code, which is how Polyphemus knows who to tell Poseidon to punish.

And then of course, he stays with Calypso on that Island for 10 years, because I guess she is just that hot.

  2. Pissing off Poseidon (a rather powerful god who reigns over the environment you're traveling home in) and getting lost for 10 years.

  3. Read up on his 2 year stay with the Siren Circe. Human infidelity is a staple in the Greek mythos. Then he finally returns home to see all of the suiters for his wife and he strings his bow to win the archery contest, then another human emotion takes over. Jealousy. He then kills all the suiters. The Illyad is rife with all the human emotions. The stories are fascinating. I do suggest you read them and really get the flavor of the Greek myths.
