  1. examples of  annuals are plants that grow one year, biannual plants that grow two years perennials are plants that grow two or many years at least 2 to 4 years

  2. Biennials mostly complete their life cycle in two years although when stressed they may bolt to bloom in one year or with optimal conditions may live several seasons. One of my favorites is Honesty (Lunaria annua) but the best for fragrance is Dame's Rocket (Hesperis matronalis) or Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis). Carots and celery are biennials that are harvested before they become tough in their second year.

Annuals can be tropical plants grown in a zone they cannot survive or they can be plants that complete their life cycle in one year.

Tropical annuals include Petunia , tomatoes, & Impatiens, snapdragons (Antirrhinum majus).

True annuals include larkspur (Consolida ambigua), zinnia  (Zinnia elegans) and marigold (Tagetes minuta) or (Calendula officinalis). Many crops like peas and corn are annuals.

Perennials can be herbaceous and die down to their crown or they can be woody and retain a large exposed structure. herbaceous or deciduous perennials are mint, peony, hosta, iris, and most grasses.

Woody herbs are thyme, sage, and lavender. Hellebores are evergreen and bloom with witchhazel (hammemalis) nicely.

Shrubs like oleander or rhododendron, plus palms, cactus, rattan, or bamboo are all woody perennials.

  3. Sweet Williams, Foxgloves,  Canterbury bells

Some perennial plants are called biennials because they flower, not in the first year that they are sown, but in the second.

    Examples of these are Delphiniums

    Perennial Plants

    Daylilies, Geraniums,Butterfly Bush

    Annual Plants

California poppies, Pansies, Snapdragon, Viola, Petunia.
