What are exhudates and leachutes?

Basically, exudates are produced and secreted by the organism.  The release of this molecule is by design.  With leachates, the molecules that are produced and released by the organism is more by accident than by design.  For example, cells produce and excrete exudates for a variety of reasons (protection, to hold cells together, etc.).  To contrast that, leachates can be released by the organism as it begins to die.  For example, you can measure the increase in leachates in some plants as they begin to die.
