  1. Pieces of rock who come in the atmosphere and burn.

  2. Comets, Asteroids and yes space junk. The reason the look like stars is because their flying into the earth and at the speed their going there burning up.

  3. i think asteroids or comets!!!! myself confused

  4. Asteroids

  5. A "falling star" or a "shooting star" has nothing at all to do with a star! These amazing streaks of light you can sometimes see in the night sky are caused by tiny bits of dust and rock called meteoroids falling into the Earth's atmosphere and burning up. The short-lived trail of light the burning meteoroid produces is called a meteor. Meteors are commonly called falling stars or shooting stars. If any part of the meteoroid survives burning up and actually hits the Earth, that remaining bit is then called a meteorite.

At certain times of year, you are likely to see a great number of meteors in the night sky. These events are called meteor showers and they occur when the Earth passes through the trail of debris left by a comet as it orbits the Sun. These showers are given names based on the constellation present in the sky from which they appear to originate. For example, the Leonid Meteor Shower, or Leonids, appear to originate in the constellation Leo. It is important to understand that the meteoroids (and therefore the meteors) do not really originate from the constellations or any of the stars in the constellations, however. They just seem to come from that part of the sky because of the way the Earth encounters the particles moving in the path of the comet's orbit. Associating the shower name with the region of the sky they seem to come from just helps astronomers know where to look!

ha ha!! I have the same source as SeXi BlAck:>

  7. Falling Stars are meteoroids the come into the Earth's atmosphere.Meteoroids are little pieces of dust and ice.

  8. i believe that falling stars are asteroids or small meteors that are entering earth atmosphere and in doing so burning up. when you see a "falling star" your seeing a piece of something breaking up in the atmosphere...but still pretty to watch thou!

  9. A "falling star" or a "shooting star" really isn't a star at all.

What you are actually seeing in the night sky are caused by tiny bits of dust and rock called meteoroids falling into the Earth's atmosphere and burning up. The short-lived trail of light the burning meteoroid produces is called a meteor and they are commonly called falling stars or shooting stars. If any part of the meteoroid survives burning up and actually hits the Earth, that remaining bit is then called a meteorite.

There are certain times of the year you can see lots of meteor light shows, usually in August.  These events are called meteor showers and they occur when the Earth passes through the trail of debris left by a comet as it orbits the Sun.

More about it in the link at the source.

  10. it could be space junk its definitely something falling into the atmosphere and burning up

  11. Meteors -- bits of dust which fall into the atmosphere, and burn up because of their great speed.

  12. Stars do not fall. What you are seeing are comets, balls of rock and debris that shoot through space. A meteor is what you see when they enter the atmosphere.

  13. Space debris
