Question:

What are females contributing to Aussie Rules football nowadays?

Anything good? I don't know of any!

They are becoming involved in running clubs; TV gameday boundary riders; football commentators; appearing on football talk shows; being involved in central & goal umpiring at a lower level - jeez, just imagine what would happen if they ever got an AFL match!

The AFL is bowing to them because all the mums don't want dear little Johnny being involved in a rough game (they threaten to sign them up for soccer!) ....so the AFL clamps down on "violence" to appease them & make the game only fit for girls due to the actions of umpires & the tribunal.

In the old days they knew their place.......doing such tasks at washing their better half's socks & jock straps; polishing boots;

preparing afternoon teas; collecting & running better half or boyfriend home from the clubrooms after he has had a few beers.

  1. Look, I don't want to see females actually playing AFL or coaching, but I do think women should be involved in AFL, and they should be able to contribute opinions to our game. I'm a female, and I like to think that my opinions on footy are listened to and respected by others.

    And you don't seriously think that violence in the game has been toned down due to female influence? Have you seen some of the injuries that occur from Afl: James Hird's facial injuries, Lonergan's loss of his kidney, endless knee injuries, concussion, etc. I think that those are the reasons AFL isn't as 'tough' as what it used to be. Not female influence.

    Females have a positive influence over the AFL as long as they don't play the game with males at the top level. Women should be able to contribute by being umpires, trainers, board members, etc.

  2. OH MY GOD

    that is actually unbelievable that some1 cood b so sexist

    woman are involvd in PLENTY of aspects of the game

    eg. memberships

    footy shows

    medical staff

    and yeah that mums that ENCOURAGE their sons to play footy

    and about this...

    In the old days they knew their place.......doing such tasks at washing their better half's socks & jock straps; polishing boots;

    preparing afternoon teas; collecting & running better half or boyfriend home from the clubrooms after he has had a few beers.

    i really hope thats a joke. its actually disgusting u cood say something like that

  3. That is a good question, and I think that a few of the other responders to your question are just a little hysterical in their answers.

    GOOD THINGS THEY DO: Womens Football Leagues, trainers, receptionists & office staff, supporters, operating canteens & stalls.

    THINGS THEY DONT DO TOO GOOD: Umpiring (and I have umpired with them at senior level), board members, coaching (they dont have enough c*** in them) & football commentators (the only semi-decent one is Christie Malthouse, and that is because her Dad is a former top level player & current coach, and she obviously understands the game at that level. Sam Lane is only on the TV because of her Dads journalistic contacts, and Caroline 'I hate Sammy' Wilson's only experience is being a former Richmond presidents daughter. The only time she gets publicity is when she attacks Sammy Newman, who played 300 games more than she did).

    They should never be allowed to play, or coach at AFL level, because they are not as skilled or tough. Other leagues I dont have a problem with.

    Plus they go to court when they cant play with the boys teams, even though there are many Youth Girls teams around. All they want is the publicity.

    I still get a giggle out of an article written by Ron Barassi a few years ago, in regular 'Column 31', when he stated that "They say that behind every great man is a woman. Like a lot of old sayings it is accurate-roughly. However you will note that the woman is always behind, never alongside or in front". He also said that "... in my experience in football there is only one thing worse than a football father, and that is a football wife. The football wife is worse than the football father because, on the  average, the father has more idea of the game than a woman. That's only natural because it is a man's game"

    How true. After all, how many men play netball ? And they certainly would not be allowed to either.

  4. this is not politically correct - but s*x is very important to footballers

    if they are expected to handle the ball on-field then they should not be expected to handle their balls off-field

    .

  5. you must have had a bad weekend - did your girlfriend refuse to l**k your boots?

    women of all ages contribute 46 per cent of attendances to AFL matches. This number is growing, because women outlive men, Nothing to do with women not playing AFL football!

    Caro Wilson and Sam Lane, to name two, write and speak with sense and passion about the game.

    Beverly Knight of Essendon and her counterparts in other clubs participate at board level.

    The women who encourage their sons to play AFL as it is a healthy and vigorous game, instead of other codes from further north, less well governed, in which people are frequently badly injured or killed.

    But you haven't read this far down(maybe can't?)so why bother.

    Go and wash your own socks, loser.

  6. Yawn.  Not even worth answering.  Two points please.

  7. I'd better answer the question by saying they are doing a fine job.

    Ha ha ... I see you have caused quite a few to rise to the bait! The last paragraph of your question gave it away for you. Careful, as many in this section do not have a sense of humour!

  8. For the most part women have had a more important role in Aussie Rules than most men!

    They organise things, take their boys to games, cheer for and support them, bandage them when they are hurt, run the tuck shop, just to name a few things. They are the ones who do a lot of the coordinating at grass roots level. They do it better than men so why shouldn't they be involved at the highest level?!

    How dare you insult the mothers of our footballers. The greatest players of our time respect and thank their mothers for all they have done to support them and vow that they would never have made it to where they are today without their mum or wife!

    You score no points with footy playing men or women for your insulting comments. How foolish of you!

  9. Women offer a different point of view naturally.  When you consider the culture of football commentators traditionally.  You must admit, they left much to be desired.

    The Ying & Yang in happy unison is great thing for society and of course football.  The game at its elite level is for the fans, and women involved in footy are very happy that there are increasing ly female participation on and off the field.  Its a great game, when played amongst peers.

    I have to admit, as much as I enjoyed the blood bath of the 89 grand final, injuries have a lasting toll on the body.  The AFL has a responsibility and Duty of Care, not to mention OH&S responsibilities to its employees (the players) its good to see the game being cleaned up and it being the pursuit of excellence in athletics.

    ++++++++++++

    better half eh!  I hate to say it fella, but the world is changing.  4 beers is a binge and promotes liver disease early death. , women live longer than men, the economic climate dictates that double incomes are necessary, violence is an insult most to the aggressor,  Men make great cooks. Womens Aussie Rule Football is no longer the domain of the 'Bull-d**e and L*****n',  and Mums have and always have had a good point "stay safe son".  Reckon you need to connect to you feminine side,  Women are already well ahead of most of us and well connected to their masculine.  Besides we were all female in the womb before we got this jolt of testosterone.  celebrate it or be left behind!

  10. A heck of a lot of money with their memberships, you neanderthal!

  11. **I don't want to see women playing footy, I think that would be terrible.

    Without women in footy though the AFL would lose a lot of money.  Women would probably make up about half of the members and the supporters who go to the games week in, week out.**

  12. They do a wonderful job......at least my mum did!

    She always did the things you mentioned.....except picking me up & giving me a ride home after a few beers....

  13. If it wasn't for the bald heads you would think that it was girls playing, the same is happeneing across all footy codes the games have turned into fairy fests
