What are fibroids? how do they affect the ability to have a child naturally?

I had a pap today and my dr said i might have fibroids. i have to go in for an ultrasound in a few weeks.

My friend just had surgery to remove hers (she's had problems with them for at least the past few yrs).  The doctor told her a c section is her only child birth option.
