  1. 1) homo erectus had a much thicker cranial vault than modern man    2)They had heavy brow ridges, low sloping forehead and flat nose compared to modern humans who have a more rounded skull and less prominent brow ridges.                                                                   3) modern humans generally have relatively high foreheads and pointed chins                                                                                            4) modern humans rarely have the occipital buns found on the back of neanderthal skulls and the widest dimension of the cranial vault  in neanderthals is low in comparison to modern humans                                                                                         5) their brain case was more elongated from front to back and less spherical which meant their frontal and temporal lobes were narrower which means they probably had lower mental ability.
