What are fun things to do on a roadtrip from Florence, SC to Atlanta, GA on I-20?

My friend and I are taking a trip to Atlanta for a day and staying over night for a concert. We are looking for interesting things to do/look at/visit off of Interstate 20 or near Atlanta. Please keep in mind that we have a VERY low budget here, and we are 20 and 17 years old. [Clubbing and such is out of the question.] Does anybody know anything about this or a website at which I can find it?

  1. I make that trip all the time to go visit family. There's really not alot to do. There are HUGE stretches of nothing (make sure you pay attention to where the rest stops are!) The only things that I've seen signs for are a few parks or you can stop at Lake Oconee. And I swear this is true...the  thing that I always laugh about when I see the signs ....is the Cotton Museum. So who exactly is going to stop and look at a museum about cotton!? You can also stop in Augusta like somebody else said...but the only thing I ever stopped there for was a place that has gocarts and arcade games b/c my kids were antsy and needed out of the car (and it was pretty pricey)

In Atlanta though you can go to Centennial Olympic park, Fernbank Museum, The Varsity to eat (It's just a burger place but if you go to Atlanta you need to go there...it's just part of Atlanta), the zoo, Underground Atl (shopping) Little Five Points (again shopping but not mainstream type of stuff...and there's places to eat there too)

As far as websites go...look on the Atlanta page. Also you can type in Free or cheap stuff to do in Atlanta. Several websites come up that can tell you about different areas all over the country.

  2. The ATL Zoo's on 20. It's always fun.

You could stop in Augusta.. but.. it's Augusta.

I've made that ATL/SC trip, it's pretty bland.
