My daughter is afraid of chapter books. She's intimidated by the size of them but did love the Junie B. Jones series. She's simply read them all. There's just no reasoning with her but I know if we find the right books, she'll just start reading them. Any suggestions?

  1. The Babysitter's Club. Nancy Drew.

  2. go to www.kidsreads.com...you will love this website, they have contests, etc. My daughter recieved a book she won the other day.

  3. Try the "Ramona" Books by Beverly Cleary.  My daughter absolutely loves the stories and the characters.  Especially Fudge.  You can go to any bookstore or try talking to her teacher.  There are just so many good chapter books for her age group.  We started my daughter with Beverly Cleary.  They are straight forward stories and the adventures are insane.

  4. Laura Ingalls Wilder's 'Little House' books.  Also try 'The Boxcar Children' series by Gertrude Chandler Warner.

  5. The "A Wrinkle in Time" series is a great series of chapter books for girls her age. Here is a link to the first book in the series: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Wrinkle... Here is a link to the boxed set: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Wrinkle...

It is classified under "teen-fiction" but at the bookstore it will be in the children's books section and the main characters are 9 and under so it is appropriate for your daughter.

  6. When I was around that age I was into the Babysitter's Club and Sweet Valley (kids, twins) series. I agree that Goosebumps may also be another great choice. I like the Wayside School series as well. It is so fun to read.

  7. the babysitter's club books are an excellent choice. there are so many of them--well over a hundred. and there's atleast six different narrators, one per book. so if she likes one character more than others, she has plenty of books to choose from with that character as the narrator. i really enjoyed these books when i was in grade school.

if she likes scary books goosebumps would be a good choice.

there's also the american girls books. i've never read those but i know that they're popular.

  8. Ramona books by Beverly Cleary.  I LOVED those books as a child!!  There's even on called Ramona Quinby Age 8 ...what a perfect book to start with!!
