Question:

What are good and hearty protiens for a future vegetarian?

Over the years I've seen my family live unhealthy and eat unhealthy foods. now they have so many health problems so I began the process to stop eating red meat, processed foods, and junk food. I love beef.. and I mean I love it and it was a big part of my diet. Now that I eliminated beef and other red meats out of my diet I feel hungry all the time and don't know what to supplement it with. Does anyone know what healthy protein foods I can consume that will get me that high level of protein I got from beef and so I don't have that starving feeling? I'm already skinny I can't afford to be anymore thinner.

  2. Peanut butter and honey sandwich on whole wheat.  Nuts and fruit.

  3. Nuts and beans are the highest-quality vegetable protein.  Cheese is also very filling.

  4. Morningstar and boca have a ton of "fake meat" products including steak strips, chicken strips, sausage etc...  They are way less in fat and taste great. For a new vegetarian, tofu and soy stuff can be very different. Alot of vegetarian cookbooks have some very different ingredients that can be very overwhelming. Try somple things out and see what you like. When you really start looking at what you used to eat, you really are eating the same things, just minus the real meat.

  6. There are many different foods out there. Some are cheese, milk, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, whole wheat cereal, peanuts, and egg whites. They are all delicious, and they give you a good amount of protein.

  7. Beans and pasta, when eaten at the same meal, are said to be a good source of protein.  Also, soy and tofu meat substitutes.  There are some excellent books and magazines that feature vegetarian recipes, and the illustrations are very appetizing.
