I want to try out for my basketball team next month, and I wanted to know what are the best exercises to get into shape for basketball. Also I'm looking for good weight training routines to help with vertical leap.

I appreciate all help!

  1. I used to play until I got hurt, some good exercises that I found was jogging in the morning with a basketball so you can work on stamina and ball handling. Also for weight training you should look at http://www.coachlikeapro.com/weight-trai... Also for your vertial leap the best thing for you to do now is to jump rope. I would recommend a program called Air Alert III that helped me alot (9 inches) however thought this program is a 15 week program. Best of luck in the future let me know how it turned out.

  2. during high school we had a drill called the river where u have to run timed sprints the first one was like 6 laps in 3 minutes, 5 laps in 2mins15s, 4 laps in 2mins, 3 laps in 1min15s, 2 laps in 1min, and 1 lap in 15seconds

  3. Ask about a plyometric work out routine to help with leaping ability, especially to help you grasp good timing on your rebounding skill. Swimming pool work outs are also very good, help you build strength, and most of all, endurance. Coaches hate nothing more than to watch one of their own slacking on the court down the stretch when they really need you to turn it up. Running is good, but you want to limit the amount of stress you're putting on your joint tissue. It's hard enough just playing and practicing the game with the constant pounding your knees, ankles, & feet will take just playing the game. Strengthen the core area of your body( Abs, chest, shoulders/upper-body ). This will help immensely when you go up against a team that likes to play physical. Hope I helped, even if it's just a little bit. Good luck!!!! Let us all know how you did next month.

  4. For conditioning..run sprints and suicides..for your leaping find something that you can only touch when you jump as high as you can and just keep jumping and touching it

  5. I am a player myself and I would say keep fit and try running a little bit each day to keep up stamina and running backwards helps your jump.

  6. Here are some tips for you

    Have fun

  7. I'd have a look at buying some Springbak Springsoles.

They can INSTANTLY increase your hops 2"+

    Try - http://springsoles.co.uk

Thats where I got mine from myself and I must say I'm more than happy with them! I'm dunking now when I could only just get my hand above the rim before.

  8. for stamina..suicides..that's were u start from one baseline under the basket, as fast as u can run 2 the first foul line, back to the base line, base line 2 half court, back 2 the base line. baseline 2 the other foul line, back 2 the baseline, baseline 2 the other baseline, back 2 the baseline where u started.  Vertical leap lay down leg presses and standing on the edge of a step with the balls of ur feet and go up and down like ur on ur tippy toes, u will really feel that and almost immediately notice a spring in ur jumping ability..and most important stretch b4 and after all practices and games.
