What are good blood tests to have done at the Dr's when you go in for a physical?

I already know about cholesterol, diabetes and thyroid. What else can you do?

  1. The Dr. will know what are good tests and what you would need from your history.


  2. I would suggest :

    HDL and LDL (your cholesterol's), and

    titers - everything from hep B to chicken pocks - if they are low, get a booster. Your doctor may suggest more of these that you have no immunity to.

    When you're older or have a specific concern, there are other tests that are also done.

  3. the three you mentioned are good, but become extremely important if they run in your family. the only other ones i can think of are for sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS, (other STDS are usually tested in pee samples), but it won't be necessary if you aren't sexually active. if you feel the need, you can check for anemia, but that might not be necessary.
