  1. Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Craps, Texas Hold'em, (kidding on those second two) Go Fish, (card game)  Crazy 8''s, .............I really recommend Flash Card s for a 6 year old....Other memory games are also encouraged, if you're in a snowbound area where you can't get out, then Leapfrog systems are great.....My sister lives in Saudi, and they that a "plant that country" where they give you the country and you have to "drag and drop" the correct answer.........Gee, I was really BAD at it......

  2. something simple and fun. You could get smath or scrabble. this will help them learn.

  3. Apples to Apples (Jr) and Snorta (both by out of the box, http://www.otb-games.com ) are great games for kids that parents can stand to play over (and over and over).

I purchased both for my nieces (ages 4-10) and have gotten good feedback from their parents.

Apples to Apples is a word game, and Snorta is a memory game with animal noises.  Snorta actually makes for a pretty good party game for adults (depends on the party of course, but not bad at all for post holiday meal winding down)

    Good luck. . .

  4. chess , checkers, chinese checkers, monopoly jr or the regular monopoly

  5. Candy Land, Whoo-Knew, 20 Questions (the one for kids), Jr. Monopoly.

  6. I found that my daughters would play any board game for kids as long as I played with them. "Don't Wake Daddy" was a favorite.

  7. Oh gosh, the classics -- Candyland, and Chutes and Ladders!  They're fun, simple, and teach children to follow the rules.  I think I also played checkers and Parcheesi when I was that young.  And Mousetrap -- I loved Mousetrap!

  8. chess i started playing it when i was six and now im an expert chess player and compete in tournaments good luck

  9. My kids love "Blink" and "Apples to Apples" both from "Out of the Box" games. They are actually fun for all ages - kids can play with adults, and adults aren't bored out of their skulls.

  10. Any of the Cranium games are excellent family games. I play them with my girls (5,7, and 10) My girls also love the game of Life and Monopoly (classics!!)

  11. junior scrabble...good way to learn to spell words and learn new words as well...

  12. candyland is a classic!

  13. There's a slew of new kid's games that are quite popular:

Barnyard  Critters - basically a trick taking card game, where the goal is to collect as many cards of a certain animal type. Players turn over cards and check to see what animal isn't represented and then must take a card representing the animal.  Good for pattern recognition, cuteness and reflexes.

Cloud 9 - you're on a hot air balloon with cards in hand that act as 'fuel'.  The higher you go, the more fuel you have to put in, but the more points you'll eventually get.  At any time, you can 'bail' out, getting the points for that level - but if you don't, you (and whoever else decides not to bail out) must play enough cards to go up to the next level or 'crash'.  Good for teaching 'risk taking' behaviour, reading other people and a laugh

Family Fluxx - cards are dealt that give new rules all the time. You'll need to keep up with the rules and aim to get rid of all your cards. Very funny, always changing game.

Hey! That's my fish - basically an abstract game of strategy.  Your goal is to play a penguin collecting fish on an ice floe that keeps breaking up.  Good abstract game with a cute theme.

Gulo Gulo - combination abstract game and dexterity game.  You move ahead by 'stealing' eggs each turn, but the eggs come in a cute 'basket' that you'll have to remove without dislodging the trap.  Kids have the advantage of good hand-eye coordination, adults the mental advantage (hopefully!)

    Hope that helps.

  14. CANDYLAND!!!

    or monopoly

    or twister...

    checkers

    tic tac toe
