If you're in the mood for fiction:

Young Miles by Lois McMaster Bujold

Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher

The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (they make this required reading in order to kill its significance - read it when school isn't forcing you to and this book will free your mind)

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

    Dune by Frank Herbert

If you're in the mood for nonfiction:

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie (the ultimate handbook of street-level psychology you can apply immediately)

Escape from Childhood by John Caldwell Holt (Free your mind!)

The Mother Tongue: English and How It Got That Way by Bill Bryson (This isn't a teen-related topic but it is insanely funny - Bryson is a genius)
