  1. Being that it is the beginning of school, why not do a school supply drive for your local school.  You could get people to donated notebooks, backpacks, and other basic things that every kid needs for school and then have a give out day where you and your frat brothers can go to the school or a couple of different schools and give them away.  That would be awesome, especially with the economy like it is.  Plus you guys could give the kids a good example of staying in school.

  2. Have a one day returnable can drive and donate all the earnings to a homeless shelter or food pantry. There are people in your neighborhood who go to bed hungry every night.

Another possibility is to have a winter coat collection site and as the cold weather returns set a date and place where the needy can come pick out a warm coat. Possibly add sock and gloves to your original plan.

    Good Luck!

  3. You can contact the local Kiwanis Club.  The Kiwanis has lots of activities that not only help the community, but are fun.  For example, a couple of weeks ago our local Kiwanis had a "duck train" ride for chidren.  It was one of the activites at our Riverfest Celebration.  That is a three day event.  (I am president of the local Kiwanis.)

We can also use help at the Santa house, bell ringers at Christmas, and even students singing Christmas carols at the Santa House.

It is lots of fun, and you can take pictures for your student newspaper.
