  1. If you want relaxing, some activity and shopping, then I would recommend either Princess, Celebrity or Holland America Line (HAL) to the Eastern Caribbean.

Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean all offer nonstop activities, you don't seem to want that.  Princess, Celebrity and HAL offer a more relaxed atmosphere, while still offering some activities.

St. Thomas is the shopping capital of the Caribbean.  St. Thomas is one of the stops on most Eastern Caribbean itineraries.  Also, the Eastern Caribbean itineraries usually have three port stops and three days at sea.  Days at sea are VERY relaxing.  Many of the Western Caribbean itineraries have four port stops and only two days at sea.

  2. Zef has some good advice, there.

I'd suggest you get a book on cruising from your library and get a general overview of the different lines/ships and what cruising is like.  You can begin to narrow down your likes and dislikes to figure out what cruise would be best for you.  You might then want to talk to a travel agent, especially one who specializes in cruises.  He/she will [or should!] have lots of questions for you, but if you've done a little reading, you'll be able to answer them.

To get feedback from past passengers [although there's so much info it might be overwhelming!] go to CruiseCritic.com.  Click on "Boards" then go to the topic of your choice.  Also check out the "Reviews" - be sure and read some of the passenger reviews, not just the ones from the pros.

Don't know what your age is, but I'm guessing from what you said that Celebrity or Holland would be a good line for you, assuming that you're talking about the mainstream lines and not the luxury ones.  Princess might also be good, but I've never sailed with them.

Good luck finding just what you want!

  3. I used to work for Carnival, and they own Princess, Holland America, Costa, Seabourne, Cunard and a few others.  I would recommend Holland America and Seabourne.  The officers on Costa are all creepy. Cunard is too pricey, Carnival is too active.

  4. You can just choose to relax on any cruise line but Holland America seems to specialize in nothing to do.

I would recommend Princess, there are things to do if you chose, and just relax if you don't

For shopping, I recommend ST. Thomas or any Eastern Caribbean cruise.

  5. royal carribean or if you are looking for a party type atmosphere Carnival.

  6. I recently took a 4 day cruise on carnival sensation to the carribean. Shopping is Nassau is amazingly fun. I highly recommend that cruise. Very fun.

  7. If you haven't been, a Caribbean cruise is nice.  The best for me so far, though, has been our Mediterranean cruise.  We went on Princess, the ship was small so no long lines, and the places we stopped were amazing!

    Hope this helps!

  8. Any cruise in my book is a good cruise! You really can't go wrong the cruise ships do their best to make you happy. So I guess a better question is what to avoid.  You can find a lot of specific cruise ship reviews on www.cruisecritic.com and they will have reviews on individual ships and their experience.  But don't take it all as gospel cause some folks you just can't make them happy.  I have cruised the western and eastern Caribbean 7 x and I love it.
