If I want to pursue journalism as a career, should I a) major in journalism as an undergrad b) do a double major in journalism and something else or c) do something else as an undergrad, then go to journalism school? If b or c, is anthropology a good thing to study? What about political science?

  1. Well I wanted to do journalism, and I was going to major in Journalism as an undergrad and possibly go to graduate school. Also, along the way, I would've applied to various internships at well known news networks

  2. As a professional journalist for many decades, I would recommend you major in journalism and minor (or double major) in some allied field like political science, sociology or psychology.  Anthropology is, of course, helpful for journalism, but I think the other three fields are more practical for someone starting out in the craft of reporting.

As a journalist you will have to report on government, not matter what aspect of reporting you choose -- nearly every area, from medicine to agriculture or social services is related to government actions.

But you will also be involved with many individuals of different cultures and motivations, so the sociology and psychology courses will give you additional tools for reporting.

    Hope this answer helps you.
