In particular, I'm interested in feminist theory, gender, and medicine in anthropology. What schools have good programs in those areas? Thanks!

  1. There are a lot of programs that have strengths in medical anthropology, gender, and feminist anthropology. A lot of it depends on what type of medical anthropology and feminist anthropology you're interested in. If you're interested in more of a feminist science studies slant, NYU's program might be interesting to you. Some other programs you might consider are UC Berkeley/UC San Francisco (they have a very strong program in medical anthropology and there are also a lot of people involved in feminist theory and women's health issues); the University of Iowa has a program in feminist anthropology and it also has an emphasis on medical anthropology, I think; UC Davis has an interesting science studies slant. It really depends on what kinds of work you want to pursue.

The Society for Medical Anthropology has a really helpful website. You might want to check it out:

    www.medanthro.net/

    Good luck!

  2. Berkeley, Chicago, Oxford.  They are my tops, but there are so many different programs with great faculty out there, you just need to do some research.  I'd suggest probably starting out at the Princeton Review and narrowing down your search and then checking out each school's anthro program as well as the bios of the professors and making contact with the ones whose research areas are similar to what you want to study.
