  1. Martial Arts-I've read articles about success-it helps them with self control

  2. It depends on the child's talents and gifts:

art, music, gymnastics, entrepreneurship, sales, speech.... Children (and adults) with ADHD vary tremendously. Whatever the gifts, build on these strengths to build self esteem.

Not sure where the talents lie? Let the child try different activities--not all at once, of course, but over the years.

Sometimes team sports are hard because with distractibility or impulsivity, the child's timing can be a little off, which can let the team down.

If so, it may be better to exercise in ways where the child competes mainly against him or herself. That's one reason why martial arts, running, dance, and swimming are good.

Some kids say playing music, drums, or exercise helps them settle down to their schoolwork.

  3. It depends on the child and what type of ADHD he or she has. Observe the child what does he likes doing most. where or what activities he enjoys. Support him.

  4. Anything they like-my sister has ADHD and when she was younger we gave her choices...we based her hobbies around her interests and things she asked to do.

She joined Brownies because her friends were there, she went swimming regularly because she enjoyed water (and its great for energy release) and she was a majorette which gave her a great opportunity to have structure and follow routines.

A lot of ADHD children are good with practical things so try to encourage 'doing' rather than watching or sitting still!

  5. Physical stuff, are there classes near u teaching circus skills???
