My Mom wants skis for her birthday but i snowboard and have no idea what kind of skis to get her. She is intermediate level and likes all blue runs and some black diamonds. She does not ski park or powder if that makes a difference.

  1. There are unlimited possibilities here so I'll just mention one: Elan Magfire 8

It's a really nice lively ski that can handle pretty much all the hill has to offer but doesn't require alot of muscle to make them work so you don't have to be an expert to ski like one

ps they're a real bargain. you can find them mounted for less then 4 bills if you shop around and they will match up to any skins in the 7-8 hundred dollar range

  2. She should demo skis.  The K2 burnin luv got good reviews, but she should demo before buying.  Demoing is a lot of fun.  I demoed skis last wednesday and sunday, even though i am not planning to  buy new skis.  When you demo skis, you can demo as many different skis as you want all day long, but not all mountains have a demo center.  On wednesday i skied a half day and demoed 4 pairs of skis, and on sunday i skied a full day (6.5 hours not including lunch) and i demoed 7 pairs of skis.  At my mountain, a full day of demoing skis or boards (or you demo both skis and boards) is $39 for a full day, or $70 including boots.    A half day is $24 and only available weekdays.  When i was there on sunday, they ran out of boots, she should wear her own.  If you decide to buy skis, they will apply what you paid for the demo towards the skis.  There are a lot of sales going on now.  At my mountain, as of sunday, all skis were 40% off and the guy said that they will be 50% off in a week or two.  After demoing skis, i regret not demoing skis when i bought mine 2 years ago.  She doesnt have to stick to only womens skis.  I didn't demo any womens skis, but the skis i own are womens.  My mountain is windham mountian.

  3. K2 has a good line of all mountain skiis, her ability suggests an intermediate to expert level ski, with a stiff enough flex pattern to support her weight with a quick responsive  pattern. Depending upon her weight a 160 to 170 cm ski would seem about right.  The best suggestion is a demo day where several models can be compared in the same conditions.
