  2. Remember the game of Cootie?  We taught the kids the names of basic body parts and then practiced by playing games such as Cootie.  We also had the kids design their own weird body parts ( legs, heads, hair, ears etc.). We ran off copies of these and played a game with dice.  Say Number 1 was head.  If the player landed on one, the student asked for a head " May I have a head?  or Please pass a head." The first person to assemble the insect , monster, rock star (whatever your theme is)  wins that round.  Another variation is to collect six body parts and then try to assemble them into an interesting character.

Twister is a fun game for teenagers.

Have a student sit in a chair with eyes closed or blindfolded. Have another student use a feather to lightly touch a body part such as an ear.  The blindfolded student says the name of the part touched.  Once demonstrated, the kids can divide into partners and work together on this.   Monitor for appropriateness ( they are still teenagers!)

Also, try having kids collect pictures of famous people and then cut them apart into different facial features. Other student try to guess the person by looking at the eyes, or just the nose, or just the mouth, or just legs etc.  It is fun to try to reassemble the original picture as well.

The kids can also make flash cards of various body parts.  Have them use magazines, draw, or download from internet ( MS word has thousands of pictures).  The kids learn by searching for pictures, writing correct names on the bakc, practicing with each other.  Do not limit the picturs to humans.  Animals have interesting features too and use the same names such as head, legs, feet, mouth, eyes, ears etc.

Simon says, " Touch head   etc."  The key to making this fun is to increase the speed and difficulty ( right hand on left ear etc.)  and have the students start giving the commands.   Since they are ESL, demonsrate on one day and homework can be to prepare 10 to 15 commands of their own.  Note cards are allowed.

Have them lay down and have someone trace their body outline.  Then  they can draw the names of body parts and add them one by one.   When finished the pictures can be described by the students orally or in writing.

When they are getting proficient with simple body parts, make the task more difficult by writing simple poems with noun and participles

    Nose-sneezing, smelling

    Ears- hearing, listening   etc.

Teach a few simple body parts songs ( Head Shoulders, Knees and Toes or Hokey Pokey, then challenge them to write their own song or rap.

Hope this gives you a start.
