I am a 15 year old mezzo-soprano what are good audition songs that classify into to categories ballads and comedic/ upbeat? If possible can I have a few of both?

Also the songs should:

A) show my range (I can belt)

B) be from a musical from the last 15 years

C) not be from a well known musical such as Wicked, Rent, Les Miserable, or Dream Girls

Thank-You

  1. I broke your 15 year rule but...

Put On Your Sunday Clothes or Hello Dolly     from Hello Dolly.

Why Am I Me    from Shenandoah

    Wendy    from Peter Pan

Let Me Entertain You    from Gypsy

In My Own Little Corner    from Cinderella

Candle On the Water    from Pete's Dragon ( film but musical too)

    Good luck!

  2. Miss Saigon has got some great mezzo solos. 'I'd Give My Life For You' is a really lovely song, and would give you a chance to show off your full range:

Also, 'The Movie In My Mind' is fantastic. It's technically a duet for two mezzos, but can be done as a solo:

Finally, have a go with 'Now That I've Seen Her/It's Her Or Me', not my favourite, but a nice solo all the same. I can't find a professional performance on Youtube, but this is a really good example:

Good luck with your audition =) x

  3. Well, from Mame there is a song "Where's That Boy With a Bugle" but it is not within the past 15 years. "I Know Things Now" is a pretty good song, won't show completely your belting voice, but good nonetheless. There are hundreds of songs that would probably be perfect, just can't think them off the top of my head. :P

  4. WOOT! Finally! I'm a musical phanatic(Yes, "Phanatic."). =O)Hmm...  From the last 15 years... *thinks* Not Phantom of The Opera... Evita... Hmm.. Sweeney Todd!... I think.. lol

Try "The worst pies in London" from Sweeney.

"Learn to be lonely". It was from the Phantom of The Opera movie in 2004. Even though Phantom of The Opera was made as a stage musical in 1986.

Im not sure if The Bodyguard counts, but if so, try

"I'll always love you" or "I have nothing".

"Anything But Lonely" from Aspects of Love.(Great song.)

I have NO idea if this song is from a musical or not. I just think it sounds good. XD

"One Rock n' Roll too many".

Try searching these things on Youtube! (Sorry I can't give you the links.  I'm lazy. >.>)

EDIT: Good luck in your audition, by the way!
