What are good natural sources of B-12 vitamin?

I have a slightly elevated cholesterol level.

I have made the switch from Vegetarian to Vegan and plan to spend the time to get all nutritional needs met.

I have heard that walnuts have vitamin B-12.

Any other natural foods or nutritional supplements that you know of for B-12?

Thank you in advance for all thoughtful answers to come!

yes, walnuts and all nuts are a great place to get vitamin B-12. The easiest way (in my opinion) to get your b's for a vegan is flaxseed oil. I take 1 tbsp by mixing it in anything im baking, apple sauce, spagetti sauce, almost anything. just not liquids! Also strong multivitamins are very, very important because they have your B's and other things you need to get, like Omega-3's.

    Good luck!!

  2. Nutritional yeast.

I dont think walnuts do. However, they do contain omega 3s which are still very good for you!

  3. Enriched soy and rice milks contain B-12, as does nutrional yeast.

Nutrional yeast can be used to top popcorn, to make vegan mac and cheese and for a bunch of other traditonally none-vegan comfort foods.

  4. Congrats on becoming a vegan! No walnuts do not contain b12 neither does most nutritional yeast. Walnuts do contain omega 3 though!

Some good sources of B-12 are fortified cereals, fortified soy/rice milks, meat substitutes/soy analogs, some brands of fortified brewer's & nutritional yeast (such as Red Star & Twinlab). Sea vegetables like seaweed, dried nori, & spirulina, may contain vitamin B12, but their content varies and may be unreliable, lactic acid fermented products such as like tempeh, msio, beer & sauerkraut, but their content as well varies and may be unreliable. Marmite, So Delicious Dairy Free Yogurt, Manging Star foods, and other vegan store bought foods also contains B12 (Cyanocobalamin).

You should check out the site below, it contains a lot of vegan nutrition information and links:

  5. Most soy milks have 100% of the daily value of B-12 in 16 oz., so drink 2 cups of soy milk and you'll get your B-12.

  6. Meats are just about the only thing that contain b 12, if you really want to get your b12 vitamins you should take a multi vitamin like one a day.  Walnuts do not have b12

  7. Different B vitamins come from different natural sources, such as potatoes, bananas, lentils, chilli peppers, tempeh.

Nutritional yeast (or brewer's yeast) and molasses.

Marmite and Vegemite bill themselves as "one of the world's richest known sources of vitamin B".

As might be expected, due to its high content of brewer's yeast, beer is a source of B vitamins, although this may be less true for filtered beers and the alcohol in beer impairs the body's ability to activate vitamins.

Another popular means of increasing one's vitamin B intake is through the use of dietary supplements purchased at supermarkets, health centers, or natural food stores. B vitamins are also commonly added to energy drinks.

hope thise helps.                good luck and enjoy.
