  1. I am not particularly sure why you are interested in only this area since Paris is fairly compact and has an excellent public transportation system. In one sense every sight in Paris is "near" the Eiffel tower. But since you asked here is the specific answer to your question.

Right across the river from the Eiffel tower is the Palais de Chaillort which contains the Museum of Man and the Naval museum. There is fountains which are programmed to produce a water show.

Just to the north of the tower is the Musee du Quai Branly, the newest museum in Paris which is dedicated to non-European art.

To the east of the tower is the Champs du Mars, a recently constructed Peace Memorial and the Ecole Militaire.

At 7, place Fontenoy is the Maison de l'UNESCO a famous example of modern architecture.

To the north and east of the tower is the Hôtel National des Invalides which contains the French Army Museum, the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, Musée de l'Ordre de la Libération and the tomb of Napoleon in L'Eglise de St-Louis-des-Invalides.

Close by Invalides at 79 rue de Varenne is the Musée Rodin.
